Don't Judge Me

Don’t judge me
Because I choose the ground
Instead of a branch

Don’t judge me
Because I am so small
Yet my voice is so loud

Don’t judge me
Because I stand alone
I am not lonely

Don’t judge me
Because not all songs
I sing are sad…

Slight Breeze

Honoring a young dancer

October 3rd, 2009 – Fort Belknap – Montana – Chief Joseph Pow Wow

This was in honor for the young boy on the right side, next to him is his grandfather. The boys parents are in the Service – his father is currently in Iraq and his mother is in Basic Training. The grandfather asked if anyone would make his grandson a bussel out of eagle feathers, he would give them a Registered Colt. The boy and grandfather lead the four Traditional Men Dancers around the floor. I took this after they completed their circle.

Alone on the hill

Wild Turkeys and the Cows

Sorry the is not sound so good - they were too far away for my camera to pick up their conversation they were having with each other.

Long Solitude

It has now come
the time
when the wind
longer sings a song
as it passes thru the tree
when the birds no longer

Nothing remains
but the coldness
that hangs in the air
like a blanket,
a blanket
that does not hide all
the loneliness
of the tree
in it’s long winter solitude.

I long for the green grasses
to lay on

to count the clouds passing by

to pick out one song
from a bird in the far off distance

to feel the many rays of the sun

to close my eyes

and sink into the grass.

Holding You

I’ll hold onto your eyes
As they sparkle from the sun

I’ll hold onto your smile
That shows unexpectedly
when you hear the meadowlark sing

I’ll hold onto your voice
When you say good morning!
or when you laugh

Holding you this way

I never lose you.

A long road from hope and trust
When you lose
and trust
in a relationship
you tear yourself
up inside…

when you do…
don’t rely on someone
else to put you
back together…

You won’t be the same

In the end you’ll find
it’s a long road
back to yourself.

Autumn Tangles

Looking out my window
The autumn sun shined like yesterday

Stepping out an angry wind blows by
Twisting, turning and flipping my hair
Causing knots and tangles.

I step back inside and shut the door.
Not to step outside again.

A Rider's Prayer

Dearest Creator in Heaven,
Give me strength to guide my horse.
Make my hands soft and my head clear.
Let my horse understand me and I him.

My heart you have blessed with a special love of these animals.
Let me never lose sight of it.
My soul you have gifted with a deep need for them.
Let that need never lessen.

Always let my breath catch as the sun gleams on an elegant head.
Always may my throat tighten at the sound of a gentle nicker.
Let the scent of fresh hay and a new bag of grain be sweet to me.
Let the touch of a warm nose on my hand always bring a smile.

I adore the joy of a warm day on the farm.
The grace and splendor of a running horse,
The thunder of its hooves makes my eyes burn and my heart soar.
Let it always be so.

Dearest Creator grant me patience,
For horses are harnessed wind, and wind can be flighty.
Let me not frighten or harm them.
Instead show me ways to understand them.

Above all, dear Creator, fill my life with them.
When I pass from this world, Send my soul to no heaven without them.
For this love you have given me graces my existence
And I shall cherish it and praise You for it for all time.

Tears for a fisherman

Tears for a fisherman

You left us on the shore with tears in our eyes
crying your name and wondering why.

The fisherman
who left in a boat
with one thing on mind
for family and for the people,
on a river
one who gives
and one who also takes.

You left us on the shore…

In time will wipe our tears away
In time we will laugh and smile
In time we will see you again
standing on the other shore
waiting for us.

lost their lives on the Columbia River

Walking in the sunset

Dreamy Sunset

I saw that dreamy sunset today
And I wonder what the sunset
Is dreaming about right now

Here we are all, by day; by night we're hurl'd
By dreams, each one into a several world.

"Friends are Quiet Angels"

"Friends are Quiet Angels"

"Friends are Quiet Angels"

Friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet
When our wings have trouble remembering how to fly
They stand by us and give us
the strength to try

Friends are quiet angels
Who somehow make you see
The light that's in the darkness
before the dawn
All at once the journey's not so long

But it's the laughter and the fun
Sometimes the feeling that we're one
All the tears we cry together you and I
That will keep us heart to heart
as time goes by

Friends are quiet angels
Who fill your life with grace
Thrilled to share your joy
when a dream comes true
And on this special day
I'm blessed 'cause I can say
I've found a quiet angel
You're a special angel
I found a quiet angel in you

The Forest

with the light shining
through the trees
and the birds singing
I get lost in the aroma
within the forest.
The forest,
a familiar place
but the feeling is so
it has it's own time...
no seconds,
no minutes,
no hours,
just the time it holds
onto you.
letting you go
after the light
fades away
and the birds stop singing.

What is Love

What is love?
I only know that
I feel warmth
and happiness when
I am near you.
I feel a complete truthfulness
and understanding
when I talk to you.
I feel a deep involvement
and interest
when I listen to you.
I feel as though
I am the sun, the moon
the trees
when we are together.

Is this love?

And isn't it better
then love?

I see you on the street
we smile,
but do not say a word..

how I would like to hear
your voice,
feel your hand in mine,
lean on your shoulder,
hear you laugh,...

until that time comes
I will take my secret
off into the crowd
and along the busy streets.

last night the wind stole
my dream of you away.

I wait for it to return.

as I hold your hand
I sense
love and happiness..

as I hold your hand
your grip is firm, but yet
gentle and comforting..

holding your hand
my heart skips a beat
and you
sense it
and smile.

my heart seeks
a gentle path
and a small bubbly stream

my mind seeks
a place to think
and a place to dream

my heart seeks rest
my mind seeks joy

alone now,
heart is heavy with hurt,..
counting my tears
and wondering when will
they stop.

in the clouds
I see my dreams,
with the sun
I see your face,
with the rain
your memories come
with the wind
it carries them away.

but still I feel
your warmth in my heart.

leave me alone
if you don't understand my
leave me alone
with my thoughts.
give me my moment,..
give me this time alone
to remember
a dream lost.

watching the sun set
I feel the tears coming on
the rains come and disguise them
clouds cover the light of the
which in the darkness hides
my sorrow.

I can't help
these tears from falling
I can't help
if your memory returns

I can't rush time.
I can't slow time.

I can only make time
for myself,
to mend my own heart.

no song is heard louder
then the beating of a happy heart.

no tear is shed faster
then that from a broken heart.

A buttercup in the field
glowing like the rays from the sun
smiling every time the sun peeks
at it as the clouds stream by

a buttercup in the field
all alone in a green sea
Smiles as birds fly by

A buttercup in the field.
No more

…as I lay here under my mother’s
blanket with her pretty
mixed flowers,
I start to think about
my friends and relatives
will I see them again?
how I wish I were above
my mother earth again
enjoying nature like I used to
and trying to understand
ways of life and it’s differences
now – well now I have
to face my book . . .
and wait for my grandfather
to speak to me.

Whispering Grasses

The whispering grasses
speak of things long gone
The sparkling stars
show smiles of yesterday
The noise of the night animals
cry of joy and of loneliness
The whispering grasses
tell me secrets
I do not understand.

Courtesy of my daughter-she called this the bear from the "Golden Compass"
Courtesy of my daughter-she seen the Pig and the Elephant

Forming little islands in the sky
The clouds separate as the wind
Sweeps by

Stopping now and then
and then moving on again

Taking shapes and figures of
Animals they know nothing of

Making shadows on the land
and touching
all as they pass by

Drifting by like lost and lonely souls
They neither smile nor frown
Leaving a memory as they
Pass by

That One Person

One person can remember
one special memory of you.

One person can hear
your voice in a crowd.

One person can see you smile
even though your not.

in your eyes
I see mystery
in your eyes
I see love
as I look
in your eyes
I get lost

those eyes
hold mystery
those eyes
are kind
those eyes
the color of the earth
those eyes
forever searching.

My Heart Will Go On
by Celine Dion

Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're one

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

There is some love that will not go away

You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

After the storm

After dancing in a storm
we discover
the lightening strikes
in our hearts
and the sting in our soul.

The calm after the storm
you can see the flowers breathe
and all the butterflies
that dance on their breath.

Indian Love

Indian Love
How, then can I tell you of my love?
Strong as the eagle,
soft as the dove,
patient as the pine tree
that stands in
the sun
and whispers..
you are the one!
~Indian Proverb

"Oh my sweetheart I love you
no-one else will ever do
you're the one
you're the one"

Give-Most of all

I will give you as much as I can.
If you will show me how to give more then I will give more.
I can only give as much as you need to receive or allow me to give.
If you receive all I can give, then my love is endless and fulfilled.
If you receive a portion of my love then I will give others
the balance I am capable of giving.
I must give all that I have, being what I am.

{Most of all}
It's the little things you do that mean most of all,
the real sweet and gentle things that may seem very small.
Your thoughtful, loving words of praise that make my cares seem light,
the way you laugh and joke with me that makes my outlook brighter.
It's the little things you do with just a touch or smile that add such
happiness to life and make it more worthwhile.

"nichimos come tonight
I will hold you by my side every night
I'm just staggering
without you here with me

Age & Eternal Youth

" children, age is something they can not understand.

To ignorance, knowledge is frightening

So the new ways represent a learning which the old ones let pass by them...this is wrong,
but even some young people have it.

They have a lot of book learning and knowledge, and fear wisdom which they have not yet.

So when they learn to be unafraid of anything new or different.
Then you will have reached true maturity. . .which is eternal youth."

~ from the book Sacajawea

Scout brother to the rain bird
who knows all things under the sun and moon.

Brother to those two black birds
the big one that soars on flat wings and
the scolding little old grandmother who soars wings bending
each of these wingeds aware where everything hides.

A scout learns to outwit the enemy,
the cunning little red yellow dog with black legs teaches him.

A scout requires the wisdom of the true-dog,
the coolness of the grizzly.

The scout one with the standing-people;
trees and grasses.

One familiar with sky language,
the voice cloud and wing.

Someone who remembers while he watches,
someone watches him.

The scout not a fight man,
but one who will fight;
not a healer,
but knows which heals.

One who permits neither cold, hunger, pain,
not the fear of these stop him or the bristling of teeth.

A scout
ears and eyes of the tribe

Scout bearer of fact.

The scout bearer of truth.

from the book
Hanta Yo
by Ruth Beebe Hill

Do it now

I expect to pass
through this world
but once.
Any good thing, therefore,
that I can do or any kindness
I can show
to any fellow human being
let me do it now.
Let me not differ
nor neglect it;
for I shall not pass
this way again.

The Visit

Come in he said...
I walk in and
in his house
there is a warm feeling
and my heart soars
with happiness
and joy

He tells me stories of
that make me cry
with laughter.
We talk into the night
and to the morning.

Finally he says
"my friend,
there are times
I am lonely,
I am greatful you came by."

As I turn to leave,
he shakes my hand
and smiles...
in that smile I can see,
we will meet again.

I will remember you
not with a tear
but with a smile.

I will remember you
from the words you spoke
and the trail you took.

I will remember you
because time always goes by
so I know there is always
time in a day
for remembering
people like you.

Walking on.
Like a tumbleweed rolling along in the wind.

Walking on.
Like clouds going across the blue sky.

Walking on.
Leaving an echo of a voice and

Walking on.

Only a trace.

Only a memory.

Walking on...nothing but
forever in my heart

Missing U - Whitefish Jr's

"Everytime I think of you
I just can't hold back my tears
coming out of my eye
Why did you have to go"

The love

a feeling that tickles
your stomach
a look
only certain people
can interpret
a word whispered so low
only one person can hear it
a universe
where only two people are found.

The whisper in the wind
tells me you are doing fine.
The whisper in the wind tells me
I will soon be by your side.

Whispering into the wind
I hope
it reaches your ears
you whisper back.

The little boy

Running through the trees and
into a meadow
the little boy
stops to stare at the flowers
and wondering how something so
pretty can be so tiny...
Birds flying by see him and
sing a song that makes him smile
he follows them at a small run..
before fading off into the distance
he stops and turns around
to face the meadow he passed
the birds song calls to him
he smiles
and turns to follow them.

no smile
no tears
no voice

as if in a prayer

Unknown Trail

As I walk this trail
which is unknown to me
my mind wanders to the
When I walked a
similar trail
and how unappy I was then.

I think of how happy
I feel
on thinking about it now...
Maybe in the future this trail
I'm taking
I will be happy.

Looking Down On You

Looking down on you,
I fight to hold my tears back,
only I don't fight that hard
as one escapes.

Looking down on you
I remember your smile,
and the different ways that
you made me smile.

Looking down on you
I will forget,
but not the times
we had together.

Looking down on you
I know . . .
you are looking down on me.

I need to see
my favorite yellow flower.

I need to smell fresh
cut grass.

I need an orange butterfly
to sit on my shoulder
and cry with me.

Red flowers.
Purple flowers.
Yellow flowers.
& Blue flowers
haunt my dreams.

How can you tell a flower
is weeping?
By the rainbow that
sparkles from the early
morning dew falling from the petals.

The Road

I wonder along this road
trying to forget my past times..
I wonder along this road
forgetting time as well.

As I wonder along this road
I see a brighter future..
As I wonder along this road
I see us in tomorrow.

Along side this road I see
the quietness all around
Along side this road
I see yet another road...

from my Grandaunt

mile per mile
it takes a while

yard per yard
it gets hard

it’s a cinch.

Good Times

When I think of all the good times
I've wasted having good times,
When I was drinking
I should have been thinking,
When I was fighting,
I could have done the right thing.

How could I know that all
that boozing
I would be losing
good times.

God Hath Not Promised
God hath not promised
Skies always blue.
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God has not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.
But God hath promised
Strength for the day
Rest for the labor,
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love.

A Friend

It's secret keeping.
It's not mean or hard.
Just fun to be with when times
are cold.
It's truth and honesty.
For some reason he is a real
nice person.
He'll write when he has time,
but to tell you,
you are that nice person
and friend.

1983 - from TJ

It takes time

there are places I have not seen,
broken down places, places of beauty and peace...
there are bridges I have not crossed,
bridges over troubled waters,
bridges over smiling bubbling brooks...
there are heavenly bodies
I don't know,
the sparkling, dancing stars,
the silver dashing moon,
the bold kingly sun...
there are moments unspent,
moments walking at the dusk of day,
watching the tired old sun go down,
moments being alone in a field of flowers yet unpicked,
moments of standing on a mountain top,
and yet there still more mounts and hills
to be climbed
there are many stories yet untold,
and those I have not written.
the promises unbroken and those not made,
dreams that have not come true,
my prayers unsaid and those unanswered,
my fears that have not drawn tears...
the laughter that has not filled my eyes with joy,
the sorrow that has not broken my heart,
the hatred that has not made me turn against one,
there are the tomorrows of the future
and yesterdays of the past
and there's still me, made from the ground of the earth,
but I have not been noticed,
I've been through sickness and happiness
but I, as one still have along way to go.
I will forget the past and wish for the best tomorrow
and I will fight my hurt feelings,
the tears and stains,
and smile and wait for the blazing soul,
to brighten my path
it takes time.

It is because
You see worlds
Of tomorrow

It is because
you see life
so clear

It is because
You see beauty
Not sorrow

It is because
you see death
without fear

It is because
You see rainbows
At night

It is because
you see ways
you never knew

It is because
You see eagles
In flight

It is because
you see trails
the eagle flew

Cherokee Morning Song (A beautiful Native American song)

Todays song

Today is unlike every other day
Because it is unique
There is no other day like today
Although the song’s the birds sing
May be the same
But they do not sing it in the
same spot or branch,
But always
The sun is there watching
And absorbing the different
Notes and shining
As if the song made it shine.

Songs of birds

Unique Day
Today is unlike every other day
because it is unique,
there is no other day like today.
Because the songs
the meadowlark sings
maybe the same,
they don't sing it on the
same branch,
but always..
the sun is there
watching and
absorbing the different
notes and
every so brightly
as if the song made it shine.

Song of a meadowlark
As the sun comes up over the mountains
the meadowlark has already begun his song.

The meadowlark sits unseen in
the tall grasses on an old thistle
but his song can be heard from a far

The song the meadowlark sings
is a song of life and joy..
and of love for living

No one is more happy
To see the sunrise
As much as a bird
That starts to sing
At the first sliver of sunlight.

An evening sunset always
Captures someone’s attention
They stand and stare
Forgetting time
And why they were there.

Always remember the time
You first came here
Always remember the time
You first laughed
Always remember your first
Ride in the country
Always remember the trips
You took
Always remember our
Always remember our
Always remember we’ll always
Be your friends
Always remember we love
But always remember with a
Smile..not with a tear.
